Franz Kafka’s Prague
Franz Kafka was born in Prague in 1883, and he spent almost his whole life here. The city shaped everything he wrote — and his Prague is still standing, all around this café.
The Franz Kafka Museum is right next to our door, on the same small street. And in the winter of 1916–17, Kafka wrote every evening in a tiny blue house on Golden Lane, up at the castle — a short walk uphill from here. Visit the museum, walk the lanes, then come back for coffee and a few pages.
What to read here
- The Metamorphosis (1915) — His most famous story — the length of one long coffee.
- The Castle (1926) — For a rainy afternoon at the window. The castle in its pages rises right above these lanes.
- Description of a Struggle (1904) — A night walk across Charles Bridge and up Petřín hill. Read it here, then walk it.
